Punjab woman found dead in Canada’s Brampton under mysterious circumstances, probe underway
PTC Web Desk: A 29-year-old woman from Ahmedgarh in Punjab was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her residence in Brampton, Canada. Pratibha Gupta had moved Canada around three-and-a-half years ago on a work permit. Her body was reportedly discovered near the staircase of the house where she was living as a tenant. According to initial information shared with the family, there were no visible injury marks on her body.
Family members said they had last spoken to Pratibha on Saturday afternoon, during which she appeared cheerful and spoke positively about her work and life. However, repeated calls later in the evening went unanswered, raising concern. The family then contacted her employer, who alerted the local authorities. Police subsequently reached the residence and found her unresponsive.
It is learnt that while her landlord's family was present in the house, the owner was reportedly away in the United States. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.
The Brampton police have launched a detailed probe and are examining CCTV footage from the area. Statements from people known to the victim are also being recorded. Officials have stated that the exact cause of death will only be determined after the post-mortem report is released.
Pratibha was described by her family as academically bright. She held a Master's degree in Mathematics and had earlier worked as a teacher in Punjab before moving abroad. At the time of her death, she was employed with a private transport company in Canada. She had not yet obtained permanent residency.
Her parents have appealed to the Government of India for assistance in bringing their daughter's body back home. They have approached local Member of Parliament Amar Singh, who has taken up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs.
