Malta’s Indian community, with the help of two local companies, is offering a reward for information
The Indian community is offering a €1,000 reward to anyone with information about the whereabouts of Vishav, an Indian student who went missing a month ago.
The reward was announced by General Workers’ Union representative for third-country nationals (TCN) Manav Sanger, alongside Vishav’s brother, who recently travelled to Malta to help in the search, as well as members of Malta’s Indian community.
“One of our brothers is still missing, and his brother is here in Malta trying his best to find him,” said Sanger in a video posted to Facebook, describing the brother’s involvement in the search as “touching”.
“With the help of the International Institute by Malta and SKM Fleet, we are announcing a one-thousand-euro reward for anyone who has any information about Vishav,” he said. “If anyone knows anything, please come forward”.
Sanger said the missing student’s father was mentally unwell and his mother is in hospital due to the teenager’s disappearance. “All his family are suffering. Please, it’s time to stand together and do our best,” he said.
“If anyone knows any correct information, please come forward. Your information can bring a lot of changes,” he said, before thanking viewers.
Meanwhile, in a video message sent to members of Malta’s Indian community yesterday, Vishav’s father questioned why his son had not been found while expressing his anguish at the young man’s disappearance.
Vishav, 18, who attends the La Vallette Institute in Ta’ Xbiex, has not been seen since March 18, with his disappearance reported to police two days later when a friend realised the student had not returned home.
The teenager was last seen the night of his disappearance at around 9.30pm and called his parents in India later that night at around 3.30am when, according to friends who spoke to the family at the time, he sounded “calm” and “normal”.
He has been unreachable by phone and social media since then and has not contacted his family since the call. Vishav is believed to have been wearing a white zip-up jumper at the time of his disappearance.
The police said in a statement two weeks ago that investigations into the teenager’s disappearance were ongoing and had “never stopped” since the missing person report was filed.
In a statement accompanying the video, Sanger described the young man’s disappearance as an “incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and the wider community”.
He expressed appreciation to authorities for their continued efforts in the search, and “heartfelt thanks” to GWU deputy secretary general Kevin Camilleri for his support.
“Let’s stand together and do everything we can to bring Vishav back safely.”
