The match was defined by Mumbai Indians’ recovery and explosive finish. After losing three early wickets in the powerplay (46/3), MI rebuilt through Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma before accelerating sharply in the latter half.
Tilak Varma’s innings was the turning point — a blistering 101* off 45 balls at a strike rate of 224.44. His ability to shift gears after the halfway stage, especially in partnerships with Dhir and Hardik Pandya, took MI from a competitive total to a match-winning one.
Gujarat Titans, in response, never recovered from early setbacks. Losing three wickets in the powerplay and slipping to 64/5 by the 9th over effectively ended the contest. Their middle and lower order collapsed under pressure, with no batter able to anchor the chase.
Mumbai’s bowling unit complemented the batting effort perfectly, maintaining pressure and picking wickets regularly to seal a comprehensive win.
After four successive defeats, the Mumbai Indians roared back to form in the Indian Premier League 2026 with a commanding 99-run victory over the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday. Opting to bat, Mumbai posted an imposing 199 for five before delivering a clinical bowling performance to bundle Gujarat out for just 100.
Mumbai yet again had a poor start to their innings. They lost three wickets in the power play and were left reeling at 44 for three. Naman Dhir (45:32b, 6×4, 1×6) looked positive and played a decent hand, adding a crucial 52-run stand with Tilak Varma (101 not out:45b, 8×4, 7×6). Varma was the hero of the innings for Mumbai as he played a blinder and paced his innings sensationally well. Varma was 19 off 22 balls at one stage and then ended up hitting a century off 45 balls. Thanks to Varma’s magical hundred, Mumbai posted a total of 199 for five.
The wait for Jasprit Bumrah’s first wicket in IPL 2026 finally ended as he removed Sai Sudharsan off the first ball of Gujarat’s chase. Then after that, wickets fell like a pack of cards for Gujarat as Mumbai bowlers were pretty disciplined. Washington Sundar (26:17b, 5×4) was the only batter who managed to score over 20 runs. Ashwani Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with his four-fer as Mumbai bundled out Gujarat for 100 to win the clash by 99 runs.
