Megachurch Torn Between Supporting Missionaries To India Or Adding Pickleball Courts

FURLOW, AR — Leadership at local megachurch Cross Action Worship (CAW) was reportedly torn this week between supporting missionaries to India and having pickleball courts installed.

"It's a tough decision," said Pastor Brent Boyle. "On the one hand, we have a real chance at reaching people with the Gospel who would likewise never hear it. On the other hand, missionaries to India are pretty good too."

Church leadership reportedly wanted to stay hip and relevant with the youth while also appealing to the geriatric crowd. "Pickleball just ticks so many boxes," Boyle said. "A mission trip to India is temporary, but a good pickleball court could last decades with proper care."

While church leadership was reportedly divided on the issue, with some suggesting that a missions trip to India is more impactful, church membership seems to be fully in favor of pickleball courts. "I think we should add some pickleball courts for sure. All the local courts are always full," said one church member. "I mean, uh, just imagine all the visitors we would get… who want to play pickleball."

The church was expected to make a decision on the matter soon. In the meantime, a missions trip to Kenya was canceled to save money for a new laser light system for the worship team.

At publishing time, in what could be a clue as to the direction the decision was going, Cross Action Worship had voted to change its name to Pickleball Church.
