Imported Samba Rice Prices Drop At Colombo Pettah Market

COLOMBO (News 1st); Prices of imported Samba rice have declined at the Colombo – Pettah rice market following recent imports.

Chairman of the Essential Food Commodities Importers & Traders Association, Ganesh Vinayagasundaram, stated that approximately 27,000 metric tonnes of rice have been imported from India so far.

Prior to the imports, a kilogram of Ponni Samba was priced at Rs. 280.

He noted that the price has now dropped to between Rs. 225 and Rs. 235.

Similarly, according to the Chairman, a kilogram of Kiri Samba, which was previously sold at Rs. 325, is now being sold at between Rs. 240 and Rs. 255.
