GS1 India expands Chennai development centre

GS1 India, a company that helps Indian exporters adopt and implement global bar-coding standards, on Thursday inaugurated its expanded Chennai Development Centre.

The upgraded facility, initially launched in 2023, will accelerate innovation in 2D migration, traceability and AI-powered supply chain solutions.

The center will focus on the large-scale deployment of flagship platforms such as DataKart, the Smart Consumer App, ClickIt app and traceability solutions.

With this, GS1 India is better equipped to help Indian industries meet emerging global requirements such as the Digital Product Passport (DPP), Food Safety Modernisation Act (FSMA) and EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

A key focus of the expanded facility is the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate data verification, ensuring that the billions of scans occurring globally are backed by accurate, high-integrity product information.

"In today's rapidly changing world, this centre will build the latest tools and apps to support small and medium enterprises, the backbone of India's economy. By empowering these enterprises amidst digital transformation, we aim to ensure they remain competitive and future-ready," S. Swaminathan, CEO of GS1 India, said.
