Seven LPG distributors face action after 79 anti-hoarding inspections

The supply situation of domestic LPG cylinders and petroleum products is completely normal in Nagaland, an Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) official said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference at the DIPR conference hall in Kohima, Himakshi Saikia, State Level Coordinator, IOCL, Nagaland, said on behalf of all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) that adequate stock of petrol, diesel and LPG is available across the state.

“The supply situation of domestic LPG cylinders and petroleum products is completely normal in the state of Nagaland,” she said. It is “fully normal and under control,” she added.

Saikia said the state currently has 250 retail outlets, including 238 OMC-operated and 12 private outlets, along with two supply locations and depots in operation.

She further assured that “uninterrupted supply through the state’s robust infrastructure, continuous monitoring system, and effective coordination with State Government Officials.”

Saikia also highlighted that on average, 280 KL of petrol (MS) and 640 KL of diesel (HSD) are being made available daily through these Retail Outlets. At present, she said that, “sufficient stock equivalent to 6 days of petrol and 16 days of diesel is available.”

Reiterating that all OMC Retail Outlets are functioning normally, and there are no restrictions on sales, she said that, “nozzle sales are in line with normal consumption levels of January-March 2026, indicating stable demand.”

Urging citizens to avoid panic buying, she further highlighted that “regarding LPG supply, services are being provided to approximately 4.204 lakh consumers through 84 distributors and one bottling plants in the state.”

Currently, she confirmed that, “distributors have adequate stock of domestic LPG cylinders and no dry-out have been reported.” In this regard, she also highlighted that on average, 6258 refills are delivered daily, and a backlog of about 3.08 days is being cleared as per the scheduled booking list. “Supply remains completely stable,” she added.

To promote digitization in LPG services, she pointed out that 80.6% of bookings are now being made through digital means, compared to just 61.8% two months ago. Stating that Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) compliance has been ensured in 78.4% of cases, up from 52% two months ago, she said, “Consumers are requested to use digital booking methods and share the DAC at the time of delivery to ensure safe and transparent distribution.

During March 2026, Himakshi Saikia revealed that the number of PMUY (Ujjwala) daily refills in Nagaland was approximately 45812 nos. against the average of 46504 nos. during February 2026. To support Low Consumption households, migrant labourers, students etc., she said that 5 Kg LPG cylinders are being made available wherein 485 nos. were sold during March 2026 and 737 nos. of 5 Kg cylinders were sold since April 1 till date.

In accordance with the guidelines of the Government of India, she further stated that, commercial LPG allocation is currently maintained at 70% while prioritising hospitals, educational institutions, defence, railways, government establishments, hotels/restaurants, industrial canteens, and food processing units.

To ensure smooth distribution, daily monitoring and daily coordination meetings between state government, the Civil Supplies Department and Oil Marketing Companies are being conducted, she also informed.

Stating that District-level monitoring committees are active, and stock reports are submitted to the state control room daily by 10:00 AM, she further added that in order to curb hoarding and illegal diversion, OMC Officials in association with Officials from the State Government of Nagaland has conducted 79 inspections since last month.

In this regard, she said that action has also been initiated against OMC LPG Distributors for not adhering to Standard Operating Procedure including Digital protocol of Booking and Delivery Acknowledgement Confirmation (DAC). So far, Show Cause Notices has been served to seven OMC LPG Distributor and OMCs are taking strict action under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

Reiterating that adequate stock of petrol, diesel and LPG is available in the state, and the supply chain is functioning normally, she urged citizens “not to pay attention to rumours, avoid panic buying, and refrain from spreading misleading information.”

“The Government of Nagaland and the Oil Marketing Companies in the state assure all citizens that the supply situation of petroleum products is fully stable and under control, and uninterrupted supply to the public is being ensured,” she added.

The press conference was attended by Zubenthung Ovung, Depot Manager, Dimapur; Munin Bokotial, LPG Plant Manager; and Keyevi I Swu, Deputy Director, Department of Food and Civil Supplies.
