BJP demonstrates in Ranchi over women’s quota bill
Ranchi, Apr 25 (PTI) The BJP on Saturday staged a protest in Ranchi against the Congress-led opposition alliance, alleging that it obstructed the implementation of the women's reservation in legislatures.
Led by Union Minister Annapurna Devi, BJP members participated in the 'Mahila Aakrosh March', which started at Morabadi Ground and concluded near Albert Ekka Chowk.
BJP workers raised slogans against the Congress and JMM, accusing them of disrespecting women's rights.
State BJP president Aditya Sahu, along with former chief ministers Arjun Munda, Babulal Marandi and Madhu Koda, participated in the march.
Addressing the gathering, Devi alleged that the INDIA bloc's stand during the three-day special session of the Lok Sabha exposed its "anti-women mindset".
"They opposed the women's reservation legislation and do not want women to get their rights. For over three decades, this bill has repeatedly come and gone, but Congress never allowed it to pass because its intentions were not clear," she claimed.
Leader of Opposition in the assembly, Marandi, said the large turnout of women at the rally reflected their awareness about rights and dignity.
"Women are committed to giving a democratic response to the opposition shown by Congress and its allies," he said.
Munda said the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which provides 33 per cent reservation for women in legislatures, marked a historic step, but was opposed by the Congress-led alliance.
"This gathering is not merely a protest but a strong call for women's honour, equal rights and empowered participation. Today's women are aware of their rights and determined to secure them," he said. PTI SAN SAN SOM
