SKUAST-K holds awareness program on best practices for wheat production
Srinagar, Apr 28: Input Distribution-cum-Training Programme on Best Practices for Wheat Production under the All India Coordinated Wheat and Barley Improvement Project (AICW&BIP), Tribal Sub Plan-Wheat, sponsored by ICAR-IIWBR, Karnal, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, was conducted on Tuesday at MRCFC Khudwani, SKUAST-Kashmir.
Fifty farmers belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) community from Village Chowgam, District Anantnag, participated in the programme and benefited from the training.
During the programme, inputs including 100 litres of Shalimar Bioformulation (Trichoderma) and 50 farm tool kits were distributed on the spot among the participating farmers.
The farmers had a healthy interactive session with the scientific staff of MRCFC Khudwani, where important issues such as the significance of quality seed production, the use of improved wheat varieties for enhancing food and nutritional security, and the application of biocontrol agents like Trichoderma for promoting organic farming were discussed. The farmers were also apprised of the latest improved methods of wheat cultivation and crop management practices.
Present on the occasion were Prof. Najeeb-ul-Rehman Sofi, Associate Director Research and scientific staff of MRCFC. Prof Sofi, emphasized the importance of using quality seed to enhance productivity and ensure higher returns for farmers. The farmers were satisfied with the latest wheat variety provided to them and committed to share the seed with the neighboring farmers for its horizontal spread.
