Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday asserted that there can be no "double standards" in tackling terrorism, urging the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to take a firm stance against state-sponsored cross-border terror. His remarks, made at the SCO Defence Ministers' meeting in Bishkek, were seen as a pointed reference to Pakistan.
Singh emphasised that terrorism backed by states undermines national sovereignty and called on SCO members to act against those who support, shelter, or finance terror groups. He highlighted India's strong response during Operation Sindoor, stating that terror hubs are no longer beyond the reach of punitive action.
Calling terrorism, extremism, and radicalisation major threats to global stability, Singh urged coordinated international efforts to counter these challenges. He noted that such risks are increasingly shaping the emerging global order and stressed that the SCO was founded on shared commitments to combat these threats.
Addressing broader geopolitical concerns, Singh pointed to rising unilateralism and a surge in global conflicts, which have resulted in repeated loss of lives and property. He urged defence leaders to reflect and adopt more effective measures to deal with the evolving security environment.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Singh held discussions with Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun, where both sides reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control. He also met Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov.
Singh arrived in Bishkek a day earlier to participate in the SCO defence ministers' conclave.
