Ever since its announcement in 2021, Jee Le Zaraa has been one of the most talked-about films in Bollywood. Originally set to star Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Katrina Kaif, the film has faced numerous rumours suggesting that the lead trio might be recast due to scheduling conflicts. Addressing these whispers in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan Akhtar talked about his preference for transparency.
He said, "There are too many rumours doing the rounds about too many things. I have always maintained that I honestly don't like keeping any secrets when I am making a film. Every time I felt like something is ready to go, I have put it out in the world, and shared it with them. And I'll do the same."
Farhan admitted that the last few years have required him to reassess his creative direction. He explained, "Right now, I am in a place where I really need to think about what I want to do next as a director. Because so many things have transpired in the last couple of years that I feel like I just need to catch my breath, and really just see where my heart lies with it. Once that happens, I'll let the world know."
Despite the uncertainty, reports suggest the film is getting back on track. A major hurdle has been coordinating the dates of three of the industry's biggest stars. Priyanka's global commitments were reportedly an obstacle, but she has now reportedly agreed to take out time for the project.
Beyond the lead actresses, finding the right male leads also contributed to the delay. Farhan, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti reportedly sought three A-list actors to pair with the leading ladies, a requirement that slowed down the process. However, Farhan has expressed optimism about the progress made, saying, "To be honest, it was traumatic trying to get the actors' dates. But we've sorted all that out. We'll start soon."
After the sudden exit of Ranveer Singh from Don 3, which reportedly impacted the project, Farhan Akhtar also addressed the fallout for the first time. Talking about the messy chapter and the hurdles of film production, Farhan shared the lessons he has gathered from the experience. He said, "What I've learned is to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted until you actually have it on film. That's really what it is."
