Delhi: FTII Pune entrance exam leaked, cancelled – The Tribune

Serious concerns over a possible question paper breach disrupted the entrance examination for the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune at a Delhi centre on Sunday, when it was cancelled suspiciously after the candidates reported unsealed question paper packets, lack of security checks, and prolonged mismanagement, leading to confusion over when the cancelled exam will be held.

The incident occurred at a designated FTII entrance examination centre in Delhi's MD Indraprastha School in Begumpur area, where students were asked to report for the written test scheduled at 10 am.

Candidates appearing for the FTII entrance exam, particularly for screen acting courses, alleged that question papers at the centre were not properly sealed, with some packets appearing torn or pre-opened, triggering suspicion among students about a possible leak.

Officials at the centre reportedly claimed that only two sets of question papers were received instead of four, adding to the confusion over the integrity of the examination process.

Entry into the centre continued till around 9.40 am. The exam was scheduled for 10 am. However, even between 10.30 am to 10.45 am, students noted that it was unclear whether the exam would begin, waiting for hours without any communication.

Dozens of candidates, including those who travelled from other cities were impacted, with several expressing concern over missing return travel plans and losing a critical attempt with no surety regarding its cancellation or re-examination.

Students pointed to multiple lapses that, taken together, raised concerns about a possible breach like unsealed, torn question paper packets, no frisking or checking and allowing phones inside the centre.

One candidate said the situation led many to suspect that the paper "may have already been compromised."

Biometric verification failures were also reported, with officials appearing untrained. Devices malfunctioned during the process, some laptops reportedly shut down, and several candidates were told to complete biometric verification after the exam.

There was no proper room allocation or roll number mapping, forcing students to move across rooms in search of their seats. Additionally, no clear authority was available to address concerns regarding the cancellation of the paper or to communicate officially with candidates.

Despite hours of delay and confusion, the only available official from the FTII informed candidates: "The paper has been cancelled and postponed. You will receive a notification regarding the dates." However, no on-ground clarity was provided on whether the exam was cancelled or merely postponed.

There was no immediate official statement from any FTII representative present at the centre regarding the status of the exam or the alleged breach.

The incident raises serious questions about oversight by the FTII and its parent body, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, particularly in ensuring secure and standardised examination conditions.

With no confirmation yet on whether the examination at the centre has been officially cancelled or will be reconducted, candidates remain in uncertainty, awaiting formal communication.

A combination of unsealed question papers, lack of security, and administrative collapse has triggered serious concerns over the credibility of the FTII entrance process at the Delhi centre, leaving candidates questioning whether the exam's integrity was compromised.
