One in three jobs may see over 50 pc task shift due to generative AI, study finds

A global study indicates nearly one in three jobs could see over 50 per cent of tasks transformed by generative AI. The research, involving Woxsen University, highlights major workforce shifts and emerging skill demands across industries in coming years.

Hyderabad: As India prepares for large-scale workforce shifts driven by artificial intelligence, a new global study indicates that nearly one in three jobs could see over 50 percent of tasks augmented by Generative AI, signalling a structural transformation in how work is performed.

While the research focuses on workforce trends in Minnesota, USA, its implications are highly relevant for India's vast and rapidly evolving job market, where similar patterns of AI-driven task transformation are expected to emerge across sectors in the coming years.

The study conducted in collaboration with researchers from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, and North Star Policy Action, examines the impact of Generative AI on the job market. The AI Research Centre (AIRC) at Woxsen University played a key role in the initiative, contributing both to the research and the development of a GenAI Job Intelligence Dashboard.

Woxsen MBA students Sakshi Pathak and Hemang Joshi were among the team that built the GenAI MN Jobs Dashboard under the mentorship of Dr. Amit Kumar Ball and Dr. Poojitha Kondapaka. The platform enables identification of high-exposure roles and emerging job categories, tracking of evolving skill demands, smarter hiring and workforce planning decisions, and benchmarking of talent trends across industries.

"The real disruption is not job loss, but task transformation. Organizations and institutions that fail to adapt to AI-led skill shifts risk falling behind faster than industries themselves," said Dr. Hemachandran K, Director, AI Research Centre, Woxsen University.
