Spl AP Assembly session on women’s quota soon

Amaravati: CM N Chandrababu Naidu has decided to convene special sessions of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in the first week of May to explain to the public, particularly women, the stance of the INDIA bloc on the Women's Reservation Bill. The decision was taken during a teleconference held on Friday with NDA leaders, including MLAs and MLCs from alliance parties.

PVN Madhav, state president of the BJP, participated in the meeting and urged the Chief Minister to take the issue to the public, highlighting the opposition of the Indian National Congress and its allies to the Women's Reservation Bill. The Chief Minister responded positively to the suggestion. Naidu announced that Assembly sessions would be convened within the next 10 days and would serve as a platform to discuss the issue in detail. He stated that, except for the Congress party, all political parties had supported the Women's Reservation Bill and alleged that the Congress had opposed it from the beginning. He also noted that the Narendra Modi-led government enacted the legislation in 2023.

To coordinate statewide awareness programmes, the Chief Minister announced the formation of a committee comprising Palla Srinivasa Rao, PVN Madhav, and Nadendla Manohar. During the teleconference, PVN Madhav mentioned that a protest rally had already been organized in Nidadavolu on the issue. Alliance leaders were instructed that every MLA should hold press conferences in their respective constituencies to explain the matter to the public.
