Education must be inclusive, value-based: LS Speaker Om Birla

NEW DELHI, Apr 23: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday said education must not be confined merely to securing employment, but should serve as a powerful instrument for social responsibility, inclusivity and character building.

Addressing the annual day function of a government college here, Birla called upon the youth to align their aspirations with the broader national vision and ensure active participation in democracy, saying true progress becomes meaningful only when opportunities and development reach the last person in society.

Highlighting India's evolving education landscape, he said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is ushering in a transformative era by promoting critical thinking and academic flexibility. While knowledge and skills are essential, they must be complemented by strong moral values, integrity and perseverance to ensure meaningful and lasting success, he said.

The speaker underlined the pivotal role of teachers, describing them as the true architects of society who not only impart knowledge, but also shape responsible, aware and nation-oriented citizens.

Earlier, addressing an event at a private school, Birla said education is the strongest foundation of nation-building and urged students to dream big and work towards achieving their goals with dedication.

He said the true purpose of education is to create sensitive and responsible citizens and stressed the need to develop democratic understanding among youths while urging them to actively contribute to nation-building in line with the vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047'. (PTI)
