National sports Conclave to bring ministers, experts together at SKICC
SRINAGAR 23 APRIL: The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports will organise a three-day Chintan Shivir of Ministers of Youth Affairs and Sports of States and Union Territories from April 24 to 26, 2026 at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar.
The Shivir will be led by Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse.
The Shivir is expected to be attended by the Sports Ministers from across the country, along with senior officers and policy experts, who will deliberate on a wide range of issues concerning development of sports in India.
Key areas of discussion will include strengthening grassroots sports ecosystems, improving access to modern infrastructure, promoting inclusivity in sports, leveraging technology in sports management, talent identification and nurturing mechanisms and enhancing the role of sports in youth engagement and nation-building.
On Thursday, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, Science & Technology and ARI & Trainings, Satish Sharma, conducted a detailed inspection of the arrangements being put in place for the Shivir at the SKICC.
During the visit, the Minister undertook a comprehensive review of all the logistical, administrative and security arrangements being put in place for smooth and successful conduct of the prestigious event.
He inspected the main conference venues, breakout halls, seating arrangements, digital and IT infrastructure, media facilities, accommodation plans for the visiting dignitaries, transportation logistics, sanitation, power backup and emergency response mechanisms.
The Minister was apprised of the preparedness of various departments, including coordination between civil administration, police, hospitality, transport, and tourism wings to ensure seamless execution of the event.
Senior officers from various departments accompanied the Minister during the inspection and assured him that all necessary arrangements would be completed well in time, adhering to the highest standards.
Satish Sharma emphasized that hosting such a high-level national event in Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of pride and a reflection of the region's growing stature as a destination for major conferences and sporting initiatives.
He stated that the Union Territory offers immense potential in sports, particularly in disciplines such as winter sports, adventure sports and traditional games, which must be harnessed through focused policy interventions and investments.
The Minister directed the concerned departments to work in close coordination and ensure that every aspect of the event is executed with precision and professionalism. He stressed that special attention should be given to hospitality, security and time-bound execution of responsibilities so that the visiting dignitaries have a comfortable and memorable experience.
He further highlighted the importance of presenting Jammu and Kashmir's sports achievements, emerging talent and future roadmap during the deliberations, stating that the platform should be effectively utilized for knowledge exchange, collaboration and forging partnerships with other states.
Satish Sharma also underscored the role of youth in shaping the future of sports and called for creating more opportunities, infrastructure and support systems to channelize their energy in a positive direction.
