ITA Airways Launches Rome-Santo Domingo Route, Expanding Americas Network | GTP Headlines

The new service will begin on November 30, 2026, operating once weekly on Mondays. From December 14 through the end of March 2027, frequencies will increase to twice weekly with the addition of Sunday flights. The route will be operated with Airbus A330neo aircraft, offering Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

The addition strengthens ITA Airways' presence in the Americas, where it already serves destinations in the United States, Canada, Brazil and Argentina – key markets for both outbound Italian travel and inbound tourism.

"With Santo Domingo, we are strengthening our presence in the Americas and enhancing our offering to and from Rome Fiumicino with a highly attractive new destination," said Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial, Network & Incentive Management Officer of ITA Airways.

The new route is part of the airline's broader strategy to expand its intercontinental network, which remains a core pillar of its commercial development. ITA Airways has already announced increased frequencies to India and Thailand in August, further supporting its long-haul growth.

Limosani added that the Santo Domingo service is designed to meet strong winter leisure demand, allowing passengers to plan holidays with the convenience of a direct connection.

ITA Airways, part of Lufthansa Group, continues to invest in its long-haul operations, supported by the ongoing expansion of its widebody fleet.
