Over the past year, "baddie" has surged nearly fivefold in bios, positioning itself as a confident, aspirational identity marker, while "paglu" has grown over 40 times, reflecting a growing comfort with playful intimacy. Although "pookie" is no longer the most dominant term, it continues to hold relevance as a soft, enduring expression of affection.

According to Dr. Chandni Tugnait, Tinder India's relationship expert, these terms go beyond surface-level charm and function as subtle emotional signals. "These terms aren't just expressive, they're perceptive," she says. "You're signalling how you read someone, even before anything is defined." Each word carries a distinct tone, "baddie" conveys admiration, "pookie" reflects warmth and safety, and "paglu" expresses playful fondness, turning casual bios into nuanced indicators of attraction and personality.
The early use of such endearments also plays a strategic role in modern dating dynamics. "They act as emotional accelerators," says Dr. Tugnait. "A private name creates instant closeness, it signals someone is no longer a stranger." Humour, in particular, helps ease vulnerability, with terms like "paglu" or memes making interactions feel lighter and more approachable. Increasingly, these nicknames are also identity-driven, tied to shared interests such as "gym paglu" or "matcha paglu," where hobbies become part of emotional connection.

Ultimately, the blending of terms like "pookie" and "paglu" reflects a generation comfortable with emotional fluidity, where softness, humour, and identity coexist, shaping modern relationships with nuance rather than a single defined tone.
