NIA Challenges Yasin Malik’s Sentence: A Battle for Justice | Law-Order

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) reiterates before the Delhi High Court that Yasin Malik's association with terrorist organizations is unchanged by his references to senior politicians. The NIA seeks to enhance Malik's life sentence in a terror-funding case to a death penalty, emphasizing evidence over personal narratives.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has informed the Delhi High Court that senior politician and bureaucrat references by separatist leader Yasin Malik do not mitigate his connections with militants such as Hafiz Saeed. The agency seeks to upgrade Malik's life sentence to a death penalty for his role in a terror-funding case.

Malik, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief, had previously acknowledged his connections with various terrorist organizations and figures including Sayeed Salauddin. The NIA's rejoinder asserts that Malik's alleged relations with political and media figures were superficial attempts to garner public sympathy.

A bench has scheduled the NIA's appeal for a further hearing in July, reiterating that Malik cannot contest already established convictions. The agency stresses that evidence, not emotional claims, drive the case, which highlights Malik's alleged complicity with key Pakistani leadership to propagate narratives against India.
