New Delhi, Apr 18 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday hit out at opposition parties after the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 did not pass in the Lok Sabha, saying the “anti-women” stand taken by them will be questioned by every woman in their constituencies.

“The opposition had decided that at any cost, we will not let women reach the Lok Sabha. The truth is, they only care about women in their families and not 70 crore women of the country,” Gupta said in a post on X.

She claimed that opposition parties wanted to do politics on the matter.

“They do not want half the population of the country to reach Parliament. Opposition’s anti-women stand will be questioned by every women in their constituencies,” she added.

“In 1971 the country’s population was around 50 crore, now that has increased to 140 crore, in that sense the number of seats should increase. But you (opposition) had a problem because you did not want to divide your existing constituency into two and let a woman come forward,” CM said further.

While we compare India with big countries, the Opposition should see that the women’s representation there is nearly 50 per cent or more in some counties, the CM added. PTI SSM — MNK MNK
